    - COVER: simple and quite thin cardboard cover,

℗ 1983 Roadrunner Productions B.V. P.O. Box 53013, 1007 RA Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Licensed from Metal Blade Records.

Distributed in The Netherlands by CNR, Weesp; in Belgium by Indisc, Brussels; in Germany by Boots, Hannover; in Switzerland by Disctrade, Zurich.

Distributed in the UK and Scandinavia by Music For Nations

Lyntonia House, 7-9 Praed Street, London W2,

spine: RR 9868     SLAYER "SHOW NO MERCY"

    - INNERSLEEVE: plain white polylined paper innersleeve, die-cut from both sides to show the center labels (not the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Probably the first UK release made in France as a licensed release or before Music For Nations was properly established with its own catalogue system.

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 in the US (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - OTHER: includes about 10" x 10" insert which is significantly smaller than insert normally is.

    - NOTE 1: The pressing quality is very good with only slightly warped record.

This sounds close to the two Holland pressings right below though I prefer slightly more of the airy sound of the Holland pressing right below.

    - NOTE 2: Even though the runouts clearly state MPO this record does not have the three pressing rings characteristic to MPO pressings.

It's said the three pressing rings were taken in use in about 1985.

    - INNERSLEEVE: printed black and white paper innersleeve (the original innersleeve),

                                RR 9868

    - RELEASED: Probably the first Holland pressed edition made and released in 1984.

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 in the US (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - NOTE 1: The small print on the bottom back cover has been added later on a very dark grey box to a black background, you can clearly see the grey box.

    - NOTE 2: This is one of the best editions of this album I've yet played, nearly perfectly flat and centered pressing and a well balanced cut that doesn't make my ears bleed.

The MPO pressed UK edition is close, it has less air between the instruments and therefore somewhat stuffy sound but in some ways I like it more than this one.

The Haarlem pressing right below has somewhat softer tone to it but it's otherwise very close to this one.

All the HP DMM cut reissues sound far too bright for my taste though they are otherwise excellent cuts.

    - INNERSLEEVES: white polylined paper innersleeves, die-cut from both sides to show the center labels and no corners clipped (not the original innersleeves)

    - RELEASED: Reissue released in the late 80s, supposedly in 1988 (DMM pressings were most common in the late 80s).

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 in the US (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - OTHER: Originally came with an infosticker on the front cover. Should include poster according to the infosticker though it's missing from my copy.

    - NOTE: The pressing quality might be a lot better as all the sides are pressed off-center and both records are badly warped.

However, the sound quality is VERY good though somewhat bright and very crispy like DMM records usually are.

I prefer this over any of the HP DMM cut reissues since this one doesn't give me earbleed but all the HP DMM cut reissues I've played do.

    - INNERSLEEVE: white polylilned paper innersleeve, die-cut to show the center labels and all corners clipped (probably not the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Most likely made and released in 2005 as the Pallas code -11975- dates back to around mid 2005.

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 in the US (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - NOTE: This sounds like a typical DMM record: thin and harsh but, unlike DMM records normally, not lacking in bass which is probably due to the 1993 remaster

this was cut from. The MPO pressing above has much less bass and sounds much softer, even muddy, compared to this one.

I prefer the sound quality of this one slightly more than the 2016 editions even though the 2016 black vinyl sounds more accurate than this one.

I also prefer more of the EMI cut Holland pressing above.

    - NOTE 4: This black vinyl clearly sounds the best and is the most detailed of theses HP cut represses I've played but on the other hand I like the softer tone of the

flame splatter vinyl a lot. The orange vinyl is clearly my least favourite of these three I've played, soft and very muddy even to the point of distraction.

    - NOTE 4: This flame splatter vinyl looks stunning and sounds pretty good, not as harsh as the black vinyl but also not as muddy as the orange vinyl. Due to the harsh

DMM cut I prefer this flame splatter vinyl over the black vinyl even though the black vinyl is the most detailed of these three HP cut vinyl editions.

    - RELEASED: Reissue released in late 2015 or early 2016 in the US.

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - OTHER: Originally released sealed with a barcode sticker on the back on shrinkwrap.

The barcode sticker only comes on copies imported to the EU through Nuclear Blast.

Includes info or advertising card of Repentless album meaning this was released after the Repentless album.

                     Supposedly limited to 500 copies.

    - NOTE 1: The 55150929 on the A-side runouts might as well be SS150929.

    - NOTE 2: The pressing quality seems to be excellent, the vinyl is nearly perfectly flat and VERY neat looking transparent bright green but the vinyl has some impurities

in it. I found few small pieces of black vinyl pressed inside my copy and the ones on surface give few pops in playback.

    - NOTE 3: This one was definitely pressed from a different cut than the HP cut European reissues as this one sounds less bright than the HP cut reissues but also

somewhat soft and muddy. I'd place this somewhere near the orange vinyl which still makes the black vinyl my playing copy of all these 2000s reissues I've

played. Also, this is cut at lower volume than the HP cut and doesn't sound good when played loud.

On the other hand I believe this might be a very interesting record if this was pressed on a black vinyl since many coloured vinyl seem to have more softer or

muddier tone compared to their black vinyl counterparts.

This is a repress based on the runouts since the Pallas code dates back to 2005.

Originally released on 3rd of December 1983 (source: Metal Blade US website).

Includes large poster and cardboard lyric/photo insert.

    - NOTE 1: This sounds slightly duller than the 2016 repress on black vinyl but otherwise these two editions are VERY close to each other and they should be as they are

                     pressed from the same cut.

    - NOTE 2: Looks like they only bothered to add cat# to the sticker, add 2 to the runouts and remove one sticker but otherwise this is the same as the 2016 repress.

However, the innersleeve has slightly different prints than the 2016 edition.

    - NOTE 3: This was definitely not pressed by Pallas as the center label area and the runouts are not the standard Pallas.

The runouts resemble those of old EMI UK runouts but they are completely etched. Based on the runouts this was lacquer cut at and pressed by either

Packaged Sounds or Takt Direct, both companies use the same matrix scheme and reside at the same address in the UK.

    - INNERSLEEVE: white polylilned paper innersleeve, die-cut to show the center labels and all corners clipped (probably not the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Most likely made and released in 2005 as the Pallas code -12941- dates back to around 2005.

Originally released on 16th of September 1985 (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - NOTE 1: The pressing quality is very good with perfectly centered but slightly warped record.

    - NOTE 2: This sounds like a typical DMM record: thin and harsh but, unlike DMM records normally, not lacking in bass which is probably due to the 1993 remaster

this was cut from. I prefer the sound quality of this one slightly more than the 2016 editions since this one sounds slightly softer.

However, I prefer even more of the two softer sounding Holland pressings above since neither one of them gives me earbleed like these DMM records do.

    - RELEASED: Reissue released on 15th of January 2016 (source: Finnish EMP webshop and Metal Blade Europe news posted on 10th of November 2015).

This is a repress based on the runouts since the Pallas code dates back to 2005.

Originally released on 16th of September 1985 (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - OTHER: Originally released sealed with two stickers on shrinkwrap (two infostickers on the front).

Includes large poster and cardboard lyric/photo insert.

The infosticker informs this is 180gram vinyl.

    - NOTE 1: This sounds like a typical DMM record: thin and harsh but, unlike DMM records normally, not lacking in bass which is probably due to the 1993 remaster

                     this was cut from.

    - NOTE 2: The pressing quality is the best Pallas I've seen in years, nearly perfectly flat and perfectly centered vinyl.

    - NOTE 3: Released simultaneously on

    - NOTE 4: This black vinyl clearly sounds the best and is the most detailed of theses HP cut represses I've played but on the other hand I like the softer tone of the

ocher and olive vinyl a lot. The white vinyl sounds weird like some frequencies have been emphasized and others muffled in mixing stage though all records

were pressed from the same cut.

Originally released on 16th of September 1985 (source: Metal Blade US website).

    - OTHER: Originally released sealed with a barcode sticker on the back on shrinkwrap.

The barcode sticker only comes on copies imported to the EU through Nuclear Blast.

Includes info card of Repentless album meaning this was released after the Repentless album.

                     Supposedly limited to 500 copies.

    - NOTE 1: The pressing quality seems to be excellent, the vinyl is flat and VERY neat looking transparent bright green but the B-side of my copy is pressed

significantly off-center and the vinyl has some impurities in it. I found few small pieces of black vinyl pressed inside my copy.

    - NOTE 2: This one was definitely pressed from a different cut than the HP cut European reissues as this one sounds less bright than the HP cut reissues but also

somewhat soft and muddy. I'd place this somewhere near the ocher and olive-green vinyl which still makes the black vinyl my playing copy of all these 2000s

reissues I've played. Also, this is cut at lower volume than the HP cut and doesn't sound good when played loud.

On the other hand I believe this might be a very interesting record if this was pressed on a black vinyl since many coloured vinyl seem to have more softer or

muddier tone compared to their black vinyl counterparts.

    - RELEASED: Most likely the first European edition made and released in 1986.

    - NOTE 1: After Raining Blood, the last track on side B, ends the sound of rain just keeps on going because it's cut on to the runout groove.

    - NOTE 2: Of all the different vinyl editions of Reign in Blood I've played this one sounds the most balanced and most pleasing to my ears. Also, this is a high volume cut.

The TML cut reissues sound brighter probably due to the remaster they were cut from.

    - NOTE 1: This LP is of very good pressing quality and sounds like the stuffy 70s vinyl but the cut is of really poor quality (see note 2).

The TML cut reissues have deeper bass than this one.

    - NOTE 2: There is some very high frequency sound in playback that simply makes my ears bleed easily. The same sound seems to be in some (if not all) other KR cuts as

well. Because of that very high frequency sound I consider this record unplayable and merely a collectors item.

    - NOTE 2: The pressing quality is excellent but this doesn't sound much different from the GZ pressed black vinyl edition, bright and slightly better though.

It's pretty much a coinflip between this and the GZ pressed black vinyl edition unless of course you happen to have a model copy of the poor GZ quality control.

However, I still prefer the original Masterdisk cut Record Service pressed German edition over this one.

    - RELEASED: This is most likely some early reissue from the 80s.

                          Originally released in 1988.

    - NOTE 1: Based on the runouts this is of the second German WEA cut and therefore most likely a reissue. The edition with poster also hints this is a reissue.

    - NOTE 2: There seem to be few slightly different editions of this LP: Most copies have two stickers on the front, a sword pentagram sticker with album name and a

warning sticker of the possibly unsuitable language to some people, while some copies come with poster and a third sticker on the front and other copies

have no stickers on the front cover at all (the stickers may simply have been removed or fallen off during the years). The version with poster and a third sticker

on the front may be the first edition.

    - NOTE 3: Of all the different vinyl editions of South of Heaven I've played this one sounds the most balanced and most pleasing to my ears though this is not perfect.

The TML cut reissues sound brighter and have better bass probably due to the remaster they were cut from.

    - INNERSLEEVE: white polylined paper innersleeve, die-cut to show the center labels and all corners cut (the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Released on 31st January 2014 (source: European Nuclear Blast webshop).

    - OTHER: Includes printed black and white lyrics insert and mp3 download voucher. Originally released sealed with numbered infosticker on the front on shrinkwrap.

    - NOTE 1: This LP is of very good pressing quality and sounds like the stuffy 70s vinyl but the cut is of really poor quality (see note 2).

The TML cut reissues have much deeper bass than this one.

    - NOTE 2: There is some very high frequency sound in playback that simply makes my ears bleed easily. The same sound seems to be in some (if not all) other KR cuts as

well. Because of that very high frequency sound I consider this record unplayable and merely a collectors item.

    - OTHER: Includes insert with the bible artwork and mp3 download voucher.

Originally released sealed with Back To Black series sticker on shrinkwrap.

    - NOTE 1: Reissued in 2010 in US with cat# 88697729661, repressed from the same cut in US in late 2013 and released with cat# B0018850 for the US market.

Repressed by GZ from the same cut and RTI made metal parts for the European market.

    - NOTE 2: The sound quality is very good though bright, this is one of the best quality LPs GZ has yet pressed but the vinyl material is soft and gets scratched VERY easily.

    - NOTE 3: There's not a big difference between the sound quality of this and the clear RTI pressed edition, it's pretty much a coinflip between the two unless you really

don't like the signature GZ sound and the soft GZ vinyl material.

    - INNERSLEEVE: white polylined paper innersleeve, die-cut from both sides to show the center labels and all corners cut (the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Made in 2010 based on the runouts, supposedly released on 23rd of June 2011 as part of the Vinyl Conflict box.

    - OTHER: Includes lyrics and credits insert.

    - NOTE 1: "Each album has been remastered from the original flat master tapes and is pressed on the highest quality 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Also included are

reproductions of the original LP artwork, including inner sleeve art, all in heavyweight, litho-wrapped chip jackets."  Limited to 1000 copies.

(source: Music On Vinyl website, the Vinyl Conflict box)

    - NOTE 2: Though I bought this "new" from a record store it seems obvious this was originally released as part of the Music On Vinyl box set called The Vinyl Conflict.

However, some people persistently claim this was repressed for some RSD between 2011-2013.

Seems more obvious someone simply ditched one record from the Vinyl Conflict box.

    - NOTE 3: This record sounds less harsh than the 2009 Sony DADC CD edition and the release right above. I prefer this the most of all the editions I've yet played.

    - INNERSLEEVE: black polylined paper innersleeve, die-cut from both sides to show the center labels (the original innersleeve)

    - RELEASED: Made in 2015 based on the runouts, most likely also released in 2015.

                          Originally released in 2015.

    - OTHER: Includes folded around 24"x 12" lyrics and credits insert. Originally released sealed with infosticker on the front on shrinkwrap.

    - NOTE 1: Though I bought this "new and sealed" from a record store the record was already badly scratched and warped when I opened it.

Knowing the standard Optimal Media quality since 2004 and having seen hundreds of vinyl made by OM ever since 2004 it's very hard for me to believe my

copy was scratched in the factory but if it's true then this would be the lousiest quality OM made record I have yet seen. However, instead I'm more inclined to

believe this was abused by a previous owner, then resealed and sold again as new (yes, I've heard those horror stories too).

    - NOTE 2: It looks like KR cut the first editions of this record but no A1 cut is yet known to exist and that makes this A2/B1 KR cut the first edition.

Later represses/reissues have B side cut by MK.

    - NOTE 3: You can clearly hear the difference of the vinyl material if you compare this black vinyl to the splatter vinyl below, this black vinyl simply sounds a lot better.

Also, the KR cut B-side gives me tinnitus VERY easily compared to the B-side of the MK cut splatter vinyl.

There's something very badly wrong on this cut as this cut gives a lot of very high frequency sound in playback which simply makes my ears bleed.

    - NOTE 1: The records surface is bumped and dirty. I had to clean my copy thoroughly to make it a playable one.

    - NOTE 2: It looks like KR cut the first editions of this record but no A1 cut is yet known to exist. Later represses/reissues, like this one, have B side cut by MK.

    - NOTE 3: The A-side of this record sounds a lot softer and muffled than the A-side of the black vinyl above. The MK cut B-side of this record sounds more open and

even distorted compared to the KR cut but you can still hear the difference of the vinyl between these two editions, the black vinyl simply sounds a lot better.
